KeymasterI have a problem with the above model fridge.
The interior light works when the door is opened but the fridge (which is about 4 years old) is not cold. The thermostat is set to between ‘3 & 4’
I had a similar problem with a ‘Phillips’ a few years back, which turned out to be the thermostat.
Could this be the case and is it possible to repair DIY?
Many thanksJune 1, 2004 at 10:30 am #111867Dave_Conway

It probably is the thermostat, the fact that you ask “Could this be the case and is it possible to repair DIY?” would suggest that you would be better off (and safer) to call and engineer.
The thermostat itself is around £20, so you shouldn’t be faced with a massive repair bill .

Or, post your postcode here, most of the members here are engineers 😉
One of them will be able to help.

Dave,
Thanks for your further reply.
Where on the site would be the best place to post my postcode to ask for the services of an engineer?

There’s two ways, either just post it as a reply to this, or on the left use the “database” funcion and search using the first two letters of your postcode.

I have the same problem with my Hotpoint RL64. The thermostat is located within the interior light housing. If I unscrew this housing and tap the thermostat the fridge springs back to life. Once the temperature is achieved the thermostat cuts out and fails to restart when the temp rises again.
Is there anyone that can help? I am in the Solihull, West Midlands area.July 6, 2004 at 4:21 pm #111873Martin

Most likely a faulty Thermostat, go into ‘Directories’ (on this site)and type in your postcode search to locate a local fridge engineer 😉
