ParticipantGot a customer who complained to us of her new Hotpoint RTA41 f/f is very wet on back wall, water doesn’t run off when it stops freezing, gulley at back is not blocked, she can pour water down it & it goes away, this obviously causes appliance to ice up regularly, this is her second appliance, same model, 1st one was replaced with similar problem!
Is there a heater built in on the back wall of these & do they cause problems?March 23, 2005 at 10:06 am #129788Dave_Conway

Not according to the diagram, electrically – Compressor, thermostat and lamp, that’s it.
Not in a shed, garage, outhouse or cold kitchen is it ?

No mate it’s in a modern home, in kitchen, free standing! Just wondering if this machine has been a “problem” appliance! It is under warranty, hotpoint replaced the previous appliance for her & gave her a new one, it has performed the exact same, she has come back to us the retailer, says she’s not happy with purchase!! Wants her money back…

Yes i’ve seen it, the back wall is always either iced up or very very wet, no opened jugs or unsealed containers in fridge when i seen it. Thermostat was set between 2-3.

…just a thought…is it a brand new home with modern insulation and air sealing?…the amount of water used to build a house is truely frightening and it takes weeks and weeks to dry out completely…after all if there is a lot of moisture on the fridge back wall then it can only come from the air or the stored items. As long as the drain is working and the pot is evapourating the water faster than its produced then i’d say there’s no problem
