Hello All
I’ve been a little bit reckless I’m afraid 😳
I have a nine year old Hotpoint RZ83 upright freezer in very good condition but which had been left for too long needing a good defrosting. I attempted to scrape the ice with a proper plastic scraper (as the freezer was too full to switch off and defrost the conventional way).
However, the ice was so hard that I wasn’t having much joy. In desperation, I switched to a metal scraper, and foolishly and unwittingly pierced the underside of the top of the freezer skin. The cut is about an inch long.
Several hours later, I noticed that the freezer was continually humming as it was constantly trying to get up to temperature. Also, the red temperature warning light had come on and remains on ever since.
My thoughts are….. have I damaged the thermostat, as I’m unsure whereabouts it is on the freezer? Searching the internet, there is also an ‘overload aspera’ available for this freezer. What is this, and could it be responsible if it isn’t the thermostat?
The door seal is clean and in very good condition.
Many thanks in advance.
