I was actually fitting a drive belt to this customers Hotpoint TDC30 dryer, one of those were the husband has had a go and it takes you longer to put back all the screws that didn’t need taking out than fit the bloody awkward belt in the first place.

As always when you are smothered with work and behind schedule they always ask you to ‘have a quick look’ at another appliance.

Now I have never seen one of these things but apparently it has a FAST COOK feature that heats up very quickly. She says everything else works perfectly but the fast cook is now not working.

I have had a look on Partfinder and can see one fan element, the grill element and a base element. A fairly normal setup, how does this thing get the temp up high in a very short time, she says it only takes a minute or so. 😕

One other problem, she had a casserole in the damned oven, how she expected me to look at it when it was over 180°C I do not know.

Anyone seen any of these, I supect it may be Italian produced. 😥

Never actually worked on one of these Jim but according to my info. it has a 2.7kw base element 😯 and a 1.6kw fan element 8O. I can only assume that both these should come on together for fast heat and one or other of them is the problem. Single grill element so doubt that comes into the equation.

I`d be guessing at the base element because 2.7kw in the bottom of an oven is asking for trouble IMO. Don`t put your hand on the base to see if it`s hot though or you might find out the hard way 😉.

Thanks Brian, any idea who actually makes these? It has a very pretty display panel with little fan symbol going round, scrolling text window and a neat bar graph for the oven temps. It looks very nice but once again I think it is a case of ‘fur coat and no knickers’ 😆

    Jim.

PS. Just checked, grill element is also 2.7 kw. I hope the havn’t got it plugged in a 13 amp socket. 😯

The principle may be like the Creda Smart Cook, that used the fan oven element to boost and bring it upto temp and then it switched off leaving side heat elements only to obtain a quick conventional cooking method without preheating.
The problem encountered is on those once the foven element went off and the door was opened to insert the food, the side heat elements couldnt recover temperature quick enough to be effective.
Cakes would flop etc… Ok for general cooking though.
I took this up with Creda tech a few years back and was supplied a kit of extra insulation to stop heat loss through the side walls. It did the trick and the customers cakes were rising once more.

That was after the manufacturers engineer had thrown every conceivable part at it without success. 😉

I am going back next week to this one, customer has now confirmed after questioning that the grill does not work. I did a quick visual on the grill element whilst being blasted with hot air last week. It had no visual signs of failure. The fan oven works all the time and appears to be working on this machine.

Will let you know what I find.

I have a inclination its Ariston built, Im sure all Hotpoint singles are now Ariston and the twins and double still coming from blythe bridge (well things change so quickly).
If the fan oven element goes off it will work like a fan assisted rather than fan oven. The grill element has an outer ring? according to partpro.
With the outer and the base on after the warm up using the fan oven element.
Pure guess work but it seems a similar idea to the smartcook, but that was side heat conventional with fan boost.
Sounds very much like the top element out of action.
    Let us know.
    Cheers.

Italian tat, grill element OC after 13 months of use. It is connected to the mains via a 13 amp plug & socket as well. 😥
