    Good Afternoon

    I have a Hotpoint – SDW60P 31716170, 6 years old – and it seems to have a salt problem.

I think it was starting to ask for salt (salt light flashing) more and more frequently? but anyway now the light is on permamently even though the salt is full.

I’ve tried adjusting the little arrow at the top of the salt well.

The glasses are coming out all whited over.

Does anybody have any idea what is happening and why?

    Many thanks for your time

    Re: Hotpoint SDW60 Salt problem

    Two possiblities, Clovis.

1/ The release solenoid on the softener has jammed in the open position and is allowing a constant flow of water through the regeneration unit – hence the salt is used up in no time at all.

2/ The release solenoid is permanently activated by the pcb and is allowing a constant flow of water through the regeneration unit….. etc.

One or other has to be the problem.

    Re: Hotpoint SDW60 Salt problem

    Thank you for your reply!

The machine suddenly seemed to behave for a few days – light went out, dishes were clean – happy happy happy – but now everything’s coming out white and rusty (although the light is off) Salt and Rinse aid both added…

Do your possibilities still sound like probabilities, please?

Is there anything I can do to diagnose the precise situation, or do I need an engineer?

Is there anything I can do to minimise the problem until then?

    Many thanks
