Please help, we’re having problems with or Hotpoint SE661X oven. It’s cutting out when it gets hot. Basically it started on friday noght resetting the clock while we were cooking and tonight (just as we’re preparing a roast dinner for the family!) it’s cut out completely. After about 5 mins of cooling down, there’s a click and it comes back on (clock flashing).
Any idea whether this is fixable (or worth fixing) and how easy/hard it is?
So, a bit of searching reveals it’ll either be the safety thermostat (cheap) or the main thermostat (not so cheap), how do I diagnose the right one? I’m hoping it’s the safety stat as it looks like an easier job!
This is the safety stat which should be easy enough to replace. My guess would be that it is normally closed, opens and cuts the live when there’s an overheat going on. So, it should be easy to meter out.
Main stat, if it’s overheating, is a little bit more tricky.
With the covers off, if I turn the power off and back on, there’s a loud clicking from the main thermostat. When the oven is on, when the stat cycles in and out, it’s sparking quite badly. I think we have our culprit!
It looks straightforward to replace the stat itself but where is the thermometer/thermocouple routed to?
