    Hi,

Our dishwasher (Hotpoint SISML21011P) has stopped heating water and drying. I have taken the heater out of the machine and checked the continuity and resistance. It seems that the actual heating element is ok but there seems to be a problem with the connection to the actual element. The image below probably helps to explain it.

There is no continuity between the two terminals (“A” and “B”), however there is continuity between “A” and “C” and a resistance of 28.5 Ohms. There is also no continuity between “B” and “C”, therefore I assume that the connection between B and C has failed which I find slightly strange. Should there be continuity between A and B? Have I missed anything or is a new heating element likely to fix the issue?

A&b on the photo is where the wires connect to the heater this is where you check continuity if you don’t have a reading the heater is faulty c is irrelevant

just to help a bit more

between b and c is a safety thermostat which has blown.

what you now need to figure out is

1 has it just had a bad day and blown
2 has it blown for a reason. which could be poor water flow or programmer relay faulty

Sorry to dig this old post up but, I am on my second dishwasher (first hotpoint and second AEG) both have this unit and both the same fault as you. The failure is between B and C and it is marked with pen just like yours. The hotpoint I fixed by reshaping the connector but it kept failing. The AEG has just had the unit replaced under guarantee but I don’t hold out much hope for it lasting…
