As I have had problems in the past with Hotpoint PCB/Eeproms have any of you used these new Smart Card Modules and programmed them using this Smart Card system, Connect are selling the readers at £50 + vat but it looks like you have to buy a Smart Card for every model they do at £12 + vat each, any info on this would be appreciated before I purchase the reader and stock up on blank modules.

    cheers

Worst thing is they are one use only. They wipe themselves at the end of a write. 👿 If you are doing a washer dryer which has 4 possible smartcards and use the wrong one then that card is scrap and you have to buy another. At least with the eeprom you could take it out and use another day. Also if you fitted a module and eprom then a few months later it had a module fault you could replace just the module and swop the eprom over. You will now have to buy module and smartcard every time. 😈
You will have to decide to do something shortly as they are already running out of stock of the old style modules and all you will be able to get are smartcards.

The suggested retail price for module plus card is about £105 so I can’t see me fitting many anyway. On machines under 5 years old I will advise the customer it will be cheaper to get Merloni to do the repair. On machines over 5 years old I will quote them £135 to do the job and if someone actually tells me to go ahead at that price I will decide whether to invest in the reader etc.

Or as Tony at EMW is wont to say – why bother just get a module with preprogrammed eprom for us at a fraction of the cost 😛
