ParticipantHi,
The problem is that one of the drum support wheels has moved on the
axle allowing the drum to drop and to wear through the pad type bearing
support of the air duct.Is it the norm that I should change the air duct (1702997) and then
replace the wheels with the bearing kit (1703273). Or should I just
replace the support wheels (1702983)?Thanks.

Wheels have been done away with ages ago, the bearing pads will fit into the original duct unless it is to badly worn, Best option is a drum shaft & seal kit, comes with the pads as well, plus a duct if required. If money is no object then a new profile drum plus the pads etc is the answer.

Thanks Jim,
An air duct will be ncessary.
Just to clarify:
The drum shaft and seal kit – is that different from the bearing kit 1703273
or will I need both?Is the drum shaft pop riveted to the drum and this area is not affected,
do I need to change the shaft? If the original drum is fine – why would I change it?
Thanks again.

Not sure if that kit includes rear thicker drum seal needed to push the drum forward, you should also fit a steel washer between the drum and cabinet backplate. The later drum doesn’t catch on the back of the cabinet but at around £75.00 + vat is not really a viable option on a chargeable job. Rear drum shaft kit is screwed to the drum, if the shaft is fine then the thicker rear seal and washer should do the trick. I have actually used the kit for the vented dryer, 1703080 on condensor ones without any problems, that comes with thicker rear seal, shaft & bearing, steel washer and front pads. A set of pads alone is £3.19 plus vat, the whole seal kit is under £9.00 +vat.
Perhaps one of the Hotpoint bods may know if 1703273 kit contains the rear seal as well.

That kit 1703080 looks like the one I require Jim, thanks, along with the air duct.
One last tip – if you can. Is it straight forward to fit the air duct?
Thanks again.

I’ve done a couple, just a bit of a fiddle really, no major problems.
