This is the type with 2 timers and a relay. When you press the start button the drying timer starts timing and the reversing timer starts making timery type noises but there is no heat or motor action I suspect that if the relay had failed the machine would be completely dead so is the fault more likely to be the reversing timer? On a previous thread it was mentioned that the heater is turned off during the reverse phase so this timer must carry the heater current as well as for the motor.

I have had the reversing timer in the base stop the heater working on one machine recently,it was stuck in the anti clockwise mode, motor still ran though, I suppose it could have failed and stuck between switch over. On some machines you can advance the reversing timer from underneath without removing the cabinet.

Ah, I did notice a small stub of pink plastic spindle on that timer and wondered if I could risk giving it a tweak. I have since wondered if the full tank microswitch has failed, although the warning light isn’t coming on. Said switch looks to be a pig to get at but I could trace the other ends of the wires to do a continuity check.

Thanks iadom, it looks like it must be stripped teeth in the lower timer. I tried tweaking the spindle and I can get continuous clockwise rotation with no heat or continuous anticlock. with heat. I wonder if it would be safe to leave it in the anticlockwise setting and forget the reverse if the customer does not want to stump up for a new timer?

Did exactly that with the recent one I mentioned. They had a newer dryer in the kitchen and this old Creda dryer had been stored in the garage for a couple of years replaced because it was leaking and had stopped heating. The lower timer was faulty and the drain spout had been snapped off the float chamber. They had just bought a small weekend cottage in Wales and as the old dryer would be going in an outside shed with stone floor, they decided to take it as it was with the lower timer manually advanced to allow single direction drying, and the water draining into a small grid in the shed. The heater will switch off for the ten minute cool down via the upper control timer, the only drawback is that certain loads will roll into a ball without the reverse tumble.

NB. Heat should only be on when the drum runs in a clockwise direction when viewed from the front, the fan only blows in a clockwise direction.

New lower timer is a 1701133, list price just under £27 ex vat.
