ParticipantWhats the best way to replace the belt on a HOTPOINT TDL30 tumble dryer? Do you attack from the front or back?

Oh Boy ❗ you have got a right tricky one there! Dave is quite correct in that you tackle it from the front BUT this baby does not have a belt tensioner pulley. Now it is tricky changing belts at the best of times, but on those that don’t have a tensioner (i.e. Direct drive, belt round drum straight onto motor pulley) very very tricky.
My advice for what its worth, and to save cutting your hands and arms to shreads on the panels, is to take the entire back off! Swing it clear of the drum and get to it that way. Much more screws and clips to undo but it will prevent injury and swearing 😉

Sorry this post is a bit late, I’ve been asleep.
I’m with Dave on this, usually attack from the front using a 17mm long drive socket over the motor pulley and through the belt. Takes a bit of sweat to edge the belt along and feels like your’e going to stove the drum in but always works. Hotperloni have a ‘special tool’ for getting these on but I can’t imagine what it would be like. 😉

The tumble drier tool is useful and probably worth the money, not so the washing machine one, a couple of tie wraps on the drum pulley works just as well.

Ta for all the advice, yeah its a stinker, but i got through it with any cuts or fingers missing, I used a bit of pipe i had in the van over the motor pulley & eased the belt on, jeez they’re tight, gonna put severe pressure on bearings i’d imagine in years to come!

No no, weeks to come if you haven’t located the front bearing plate fully home 😥

Mark,
Based on this subject I pushed the boat out and purchased this tool for £11, which arrived today. (Bit of steel tubing with a collar welded on 😕 )
A treasured addition to my toolkit I very much doubt but I will give it a go if ever I come across one of these belts jobs again? Just one question….will it be obvious to me how to use it ❓ ‘cos I can’t figure it out just from its looks (no idiots guide enclosed with it 🙁 )
