hi, to be honest these rarely fail, i probably fit 100 rear stats to 1 front stat, dont worry too much about it, what problems are you trying to cure?

Model and serial numbers are required to order parts, (found on the white sticker inside the door or on the back panel). Then click Shop @ at the top of the page. They’ll get it for you; and it’ll be the right one. 😉

well long story really
it started maybe 6-7 months after we bought the dryer. it stopped heating so we calle dthe engineer who replaced the rear stats. then a month or two later it stopped heating again. this time he replaced this single one inside. it lasted a year or so and stopped again so now it was out of warranty i replaced the rear pair myself. worked fine for a while and stopped AGAIN. had a look at the heating element which looked ok but for part of the insulation card? (dont know what its called – the cards that keep the elements apart and the who;e thing rigid) which was broken. left it for over a year then decided we needed the dryer and ive just replaced the element with a new one from hotpoint-spares so i know its the right one. worked for several minutes then stopped heating again. i can only assume its the stats which i reset after the last time it stopped. new ones are on order but if they dont work it must be the singel one. anything else it could be?
cheers for the repliesphil

does anybody know what the front stat is for on this dryer? does it reset or just is it one shot? if its just another stat then why have 2?

When the machine “stops” as you put it, then most likely it’s not stat failure at all but the Relay playing up? If however it continues to operate but with no heat, then and only then could it be a stat problem. 😉

it was stat failure. replaced them and its working for now. when i said it stops i meant it stops heating. drum still turned. its on now for a testing. see how long it lasts eh? on reading another post on this problem i read about not opening the door until the element has cooled which is what i suspect has happened as the wife likes to make sure things are drying. but id still like to know how the 3rd stat inside the door comes into play?

No secret, it acts as an exhaust stat (measures the heat flowing out of the machine) If it gets too hot, i.e the air flow is seriously restricted or the internal temperature rises too high – it pops! 😉
