Participantive changed the thermostats about 4 times over the last 5 years or so when it stopped heating again I was surprised to find it wasn’t the thermostats or the element.
I tested for continuity and both were 0.0 on the multimeter ie continuity
or closed circuit
the heater element was checked and is not broken ie that too has continuity or closed.so the problem is elsewhere
the front timer switch seems to be working ok when checked with the multimeterwith the heater cover off at the rear and drum turning if I hit the front panel the element came on so I quickly opened the door so as not to burn out.
sadly I have not been able to repeat this no matter where or how hard I bang.
a new dryer isn’t going to break the bank at £200 plus but it would be nice to keep this thing running
any ideas?
I have a multimeter that will do ohms and check for ac volts up to 600
cheers

There is another thermostat located in the front door surround.
If you open the door and look up at the top of the door surround you will see the stat secured by two small screws, usually just right of centre. The wiring to this stat is very tight and you may lose it if you try to pull the stat out without first freeing it from the wiring harness inside the machine.
Very carefully cut the black plastic cable ties that hold the wiring to this stat to allow you to pull it down into the door opening.
THIS is the door surround stat. Alternative part number is C00095536.August 15, 2018 at 6:41 am #457306aljaxon

there seems to be a black plastic electrical unit above it -the door closed switch?
the connectors leading to this were corroded to hell – I doubt there was a circuit and I reckon this could be the problem. it was that corroded the plastic shroud around the connector had decayed into nothing!!!the machine spun but no heat. would that rule out the top door switch malfunction as it wouldn’t turn if it was faulty? or is this just a switch for the heat?

the front thermostat had continuity so Im not gonna replace that, the two wires to the door switch at the top are now gunk free and the switch is operating as it should. there is a collection of wires connecting into a transparent box even higher than the start and run cool switches. what is that and how to check if it is no good?
cheers
still no heat. is there anything else down in the bowels that would switch the supply to the thermostats off? I can see a couple of things with wires leading to them

The clear plastic box is the start relay. This machine also has a reversing timer in the base. That can also stop the heater from working.

Part number for this timer is C00205872, a cool £52. 🙁
Sadly it does appear to be out of stock in most places or NLA.

thanks for that
part of me is thinking of simply running a wire from the front door switch to the rear thermostats but which thermostat? top or bottom? and would that work?
its either that or a new machineAugust 15, 2018 at 9:05 pm #457312iadom

That would be an extremely dangerous thing to do, please don’t go there. :death:
