ParticipantHi, hope someone can help. My dryer (bought in Norway, made in UK) is leaking water from the back panel around the air intake fan. Water bottle is not filling up.
I’ve cleaned all filters, discharge hose is clear, removed the pump housing and cleaned around the pump unit and float but no success. Would take a picture but can’t see how to attach it to this post. As I look at the back of the dryer, water is leaking from under the panel on the left. I have removed this but only see the the fan which I’ve cleaned and hoovered.
Thanks

I think this dryer is the same as the UK models that have been subject to a major recall in the UK for a modification to prevent a possible fire. Has yours been checked or had the modification done?
Likely cause of fault is a blocked drain channel at the very back of the chamber that holds the condenser unit. Take out the condenser and reach right into the chamber as far as you can, you will be able to feel the drain channel running along the back.

Thanks for the quick reply! I’ll look into the recall. How do you remove the condenser unit though? I have taken out the filter covering the front under the door but can’t see how to get the condenser out…

That is a bit worrying, it suggests you have never cleaned out the condenser, something that should be done on a very regular basis, at the very least once a month for moderate use machines.
Do you have the instruction manual, details of all cleaning procedures are in that.
Basically there should be three catches that flick round to allow you to pull out the metal condenser.
Of course I am describing a UK model of Hotpoint TCD dryer but it should be identical.Alternatively can you post a picture of the lower front of the dryer with the lower front panel dropped down?

This is a screen grab from a Hotpoint TCD UK model.
The best way to clean the condenser is with a hose pipe or better still a pressure washer.

Hi,
I can’t get the photo small enough to upload… The front is similar but when I drop the hatch, I have 4 clips which then removes a short filter unit which can be cleaned. The condenser itself is behind the frame of the machine and looks like I’d need to remove the front panel and door to get it out….November 21, 2017 at 8:08 pm #451854Davidmarlow80

Link to instruction manual showing the detail here. I can’t even upload a screen shot as it’s bigger than 200k…

If it is not that old then it could be based on a Whirlpool dryer, wouldn’t have expected it to be labled a TCD though?

Does look like a Whirlpool, not as familiar with that machine as far as leaks are concerned TBH. 🙁
Good news is the fire safety recall doesn’t apply. 🙂

Looks like Hotpoint is owned by Whirlpool so maybe just different branding between countries? Anyway, does anyone know if the condenser can be removed….?

Managed to fix by removing back panels and pump covers, taking out the pump and cleaning out the internals. Seems the inlet to the pump reservoir was blocked.
Thanks for the replies and help. -
