So, either i need to go to specsavers or they’ve hidden it…!!! Ive this dryer but its a lazy starter, so fair enough capacitor you’d think, well ok id think… , i whipped off the side panel and ermmm, there’s the motor but wheres the big Alu tube capacitor???, either its the scarlet pimpernel or they’ve hidden it, please don’t say inside the motor, experts please HELP
    tia James

I should add, it has the hole in the mouldings for a capacitor , but no wires hanging about, its got askell/askoll written on the motor , motor not fully exposed this had what id say is more shrouding around it

Diagram shows it next to the motor. Can you share a photo of the motor area?

I CANT upload a pic myself , says pic to big , but this is how the motor looks on mine and yes usually they are mounted infront of the motor, but Nowt there, , am i right in thinking without a capacitor the dryer just wouldnt start? if i am then it must have one, but where?

Ah that version doesn’t use a capacitor.

Phew least I’m not going mad, still begs the A what’s making it a lazy starter? Very similar symptoms as a tired capacitor does this motor have brushes?

I suppose i mean , is it possible to have a tired motor, or do they either work 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} and then stop..! or can they , and i dont mean degrade, but get lazy?, the dryer with a full load of wet washing does start u and then work fine , but that initial start up seems laboured??? thanks

Start with the obvious and check all connections between motor and board, might also be worth checking bearings etc if the drum is catching or rubbing will take more oopmh to get it going.

    Hi All,
So time for another look at this slow starter, given the motor type as previously mentioned/established regarding a capacitor, can you guys tell me The right belt size, i’ve looked on fleabay and am getting a bit of conflicting advice, the belt fitted at the moment is comtech 144003064 7ph 1965, now the belt on fleabay is saying a different part number and its a 144002145 6ph 1991 length??, so am i looking at a belt that’s been fitted, that’s just to flaming tight ? IE the wrong sized belt and that’s causing the issue?

    Thanks in Advance
    James

1965 is right belt with the sprung moor like you’ve shared, the 1991 belt is for the older type motor.

Hi Matrix , thanks for that, the only thing i can say , is when you hit pause and the motor slows and stops, the noise it gives off , is, well hard to explain , but its like the noise of a very very tight belt, sort of squeaky, hard to explain, so given the other belt , the 1991 is longer i imagine, if that was fitted , im just thinking maybe the spring/sprung tension would be less, and potentially? an easier start up i do have a 1991 belt, given how these dryers are i presume the way to change it is release the back panel from the side panels etc any thoughts?

Hi Dave , No ill be honest i havnt , when the dryers running , its nice and quiet , even on initial start up its quiet, slow/hesitant, its noticeable as i say when the dryer turning its last revolution before stopping, ok you cant hear it but it does sound like a squeaky/very tight/to tight belt

if the drum is tight is wont squeak all the time

front bearings are plastic skates on some models and when they wear through it just runs on the plastic front but ist not as slippy as the bearing material

try taking the rear cover off and see how easily the drum turns by hand
