ParticipantMy TDC30 is running fine but not heating. The “drying” light does not come on. I’ve checked all the stats (including inside the door), and the heating elements. All fine. I’ve also fairly comprehensively cleaned out all fluff etc throughout.
The relay failed 6 months ago and I replaced it, which fixed the problem I was having back then (drum only turning one way and then stopping). On one of these posts I read that a relay failure may affect the PCB (not sure what that is) or other components.
Do you have any suggestions? I’d be sorry to abandon the machine, although it is probaby 7 or 8 years old. It is in good nick except for this issue on the heating circuit. Might it be the timer? How could I check? And if so, is it worth replacing (I think a timer unit costs around £50), or will something else probably fail soon anyway?
Would be grateful for your thoughts. This is a great site.
As an afterthought, if I replaced the TDC30, I would proably get another Hotpoint. Are they still regarded as good (and reliable)?

No circuit boards in this, if everything else is OK then it points towards the control timer TBH
Hotpoint are now Indesit, their dryers are not the best. If it must be a condenser then Bosch or possibly Zanussi.w

OK – many thanks. I’ll probably call it quits and get a replacement. Thank you anyway. Will look at Bosch.

I have the exact same fault on my hotpoint TDC30 as described above and have also continuity checked everything inc all 3 stats, elements etc. How does the timer unit affect heat production, mine seems to work ok in terms of rotating etc?? I have also replaced the relay in case it was the high/low heat switch affecting things as mentioned somewhere.

The relay is to control the door and the whole of the machine, not just the heater.
How do you think the heater is switched on and then switched off for the cool down period at the end, the timer is the only way of achieving this. 😉
Can also be a faulty float switch.

Hi and thanks for responding 😀
I have checked the float switch and that seems ok. Is there any way to check the timer unit or is it that we are at the point that it can’t be anything else. I even took everything apart again and checked the heater and thermostats a 2nd time to make sure i didn’t make an error.
If it helps, the drum rotates and switches briefly in the opposite direction and then rotates again so not stuck in reverse.

It is possible to check the individual switches through the timer. Still the most likely culprit if all your other tests are OK.

Ok, thanks for that – I presume a continuity test to see when they go open/closed circuit – any idea which one controls the heater circuit?
Thanks

Errr, the ones with the wires going to the heater and stats. 😉

Sometimes a very close visual examination of the timer will reveal signs of burning on the terminal contacts.
