ParticipantToday I went out to the above TDC32P. Customer says that the heat comes on intermittently. The ‘clean filter’ illumination is lit dimley, and the empty water illumination is lit. The water container is of course empty. Checked the usual stuff, ie toc’s at the back and all seems ok. I notice there is a 3 tag microswitch attached to what seems to be a float when I removed the L/H side panel, I didn’t actualy check the switch with my test meter as its evil to get to and time wasn’t on my side. However it looked as good as new and if i lifted the long metal rocker on it there is a good solid click. Not had this one before. Anybody any ideas?
Thank you.

Usual suspects:-
Float chamber blocked, Front safety stat (in door aperture) and possibly the timer contacts burning up (common fault)?

I had a real awkward one of these. It turned out to be a piece of one of the kids toys shorting the heater. But the fault didn’t show up on the mega, only under load. Unlikely, I know but worth a look.

I Now have this thing sat in my workshop awaiting a free spell of time to sort out. I have taken off the stat in the door enclosure and shorted it out. (No diferent). Fitted a new green spot TOC kit just in case. (no different). Checked the 3 tag microswitch which is ok and removed and very closley inspected the heater element which looks as new almost. In fact apart from a bit of dust, this entire machine looks in excelent condition. SO………… looks like the timer is faulty, anyone with any further ideas? Timer is aprox £18 + vat cost from connect distribution so its not the end of the world if I get it wrong i suppose. 😕

Had a few over the last couple of years – you can track it back to the timer with your meter quite easily, then its just a switch functon test.

Now that has always been my problem? How do you check the feed to and from the timer? There’s no room there to get test leads in let alone suss which lead is which? 🙁
I have found that in cases like this when there is no live feed to the front stat, then the Timer is at fault (my rule of thumb). The Relay can usually be discounted as the live feed from there never seems to fail? (Relays only fail to hold as a rule). But accessing the timer with a test lead is impossible as the drum is in the way! 😕

For 18 quid, get the timer.
I have done a few for similar fault, almost certainly burnt contacts in timer.
If I remember, the timer supplied is different with supplied instructions.Brian
