Hi, I have a Hotpoint TDC62p that is only partially drying the load, it takes two or three attempts to get cloths anywhere near dry.

I’ve checked the thermostats with a multimeter and they are ok and the heating element heats up, or at least one of the bars does, cant see the other three. The brush on top of the drum seems to have good contact. There is no fluff coming through to the filter and no water is being collected.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Is the large condenser at the bottom clear, it should be cleaned out every week or so.

It could be faulty element, its a bit delicate but if it is fault it is normally visually obvious.

What happens if you set it to timed dry as opposed to sensor drying?

As a far as I can tell it only partially heats up on the timed settings.

I understand the element does not get as hot when operating under the timer, but still cloths are left damp at the end of the cycle.

I’ve read posts that refer to a ‘ front sensor’ and a motor only out putting 110v. Could you advise where I’ll find the front sensor, and whether this could be a likely cause, as for the motor operating at 110v, what do I check? will this cause a similar fault?

    Thanks in advance.

The door exhaust stat is located just inside the door opening at the top, a small disc held in with two screws. It does sometimes fail but not that often.

As for the motor running at 110 volts I have no idea what that is about,
suspect that is a red herring. 😉

Thanks for the reply, when you say it’s located inside the door opening, is this just under the control panel? inside or out?

    Many thanks

With the filter out of the door, look down inside where the filter lives. Blockages there give your symptoms.

    iadom,

I’ve located the stat, undone the two screws and felt some resistance as I pulled on it. Stopped just in case i made the situation worse. Can you advise ? does it just pull out, do I have to get at it from above?

    Cheers

Hopefully Tim’s advice will have done the trick, if not the best way to get that stat out is to remove the top and snip the plastic tie holding the wiring harness above the stat. This usually allows you just enough play to pull the stat down to access.

    Tim, Iadom,

Thanks both, it’s sorted. Pulled a few handfuls of fluff from beneath the filter that was blocking the path to the condenser, and that’s cured it.

    Many thanks for your help.
