ParticipantHi,
This is a bit of a long story, so stick with me please
We have had our Hotpoint TDHP871 tumble drier for about 3 and half years and overall been happy with it. Recently it started sound pretty rough when running, so we had Hotpoint come out and look at it.
The engineer turned up, and after about 45 minutes of tinkering about and replacing various parts (Teardrop Bearing and the water pump), he said he was done. So before he left, i had a quick listen, and the problem was still there. He said he would need to order some more parts that he didn’t carry on the van and i would have to arrange another visit.
After he had gone, i noticed the new water pump made a horribly annoying loud slurping noise every 5 seconds or so (like drinking a drink with a straw when your are trying to get the last few drops), so i just thought i would wait and mention this when the engineer returned.
Anyway, engineer 2 came out a week later (with no new parts, the 1st engineer didn’t actually order any) and argued with me that ALL the noises that i was hearing were just normal tumble drier noises and there was nothing he could do. After arguing with him for 5 minutes, and him telling me that maybe the tumble drier had always made these noises in the 3 and half years I had owned it and I had only just noticed it, i had to ask him to leave for insulting my intelligence.
So, I had to arrange another engineer visit for the following week.
Engineer 3 turned up and within 2 minutes, had identified the cause of the original problem, and had it fixed within 10 minutes (it was the Jockey Wheel i think that was loose and worn).
I asked him about the water pump noise and he said this is just the noise that newer (cheaper!?) pumps make.
Surely this can’t be the case, the noise drives me crazy, i can now only have the tumble drier on when i know i am going to be of the house.
And even more infuriating is that the water pump was replaced when it never needed to be in the first place!
Is the engineer correct in saying this slurping noise is normal? is there anything I can do about it?
My only theory is that perhaps they put in a 3rd party (inferior?) water pump, rather than an original?
3rd party:

Thanks for reading.
