ParticipantHotpoint TDL11P Ser.no. 90101556 Problems with front felt bearing.
Fitted a new felt to the drum supporting lip of the front filter housing as per original. On this model there is no provision for fitting the plastic bearings: the mounting brackets you would normally fit the bearings to are not there.
So I just fitted the felt but it wore through very quickly. The felt was very thin and the only thing supporting the front of the drum. But it was exactly the same size and shape as the original part.
I can’t see an answer to this. 😕
Is there a modification for this machine, maybe a retro – fit of the plastic bearings? What would you fit them to? I must admit the felt bearing(!) alone looked pretty feeble for something under so much pressure.
Any help please or part no’s – thanks!!!

Duct and drum kit only I’m afraid, part number 1702495 which as WVM says, includes modified front duct unit to take bearing pads etc.

Why should felt wear?
Is drum lip rough? Or does felt require grease?

I have done a few of these conversions, difficult to do it for less than Hotperloni’s labour charge the kit is around £50.00 plus vat. 😥
The felt seal is easily worn away, the kit includes a plastic duct complete with the old style bearing pads that they have also had to reintroduce on the latest machines in place of the drum support bearing pulleys that make an awful noise.
Far more stress on the front & rear bearings with the introduction of ‘stretchy belts’ in place of the old jockey pulley system, still that’s progress. 😥
If you do order this kit, make sure you open the box and check everything, I have had badly dented drums and, I even had one that had the drum for the much earlier Hotpoint dryer in the kit, the drum opening was about two inches smaller. 👿

Don’t know, lubricated it with silicon spray as usual. Only problem I can see with the modified banjo / bearing unit is the front ‘wired edge’ of the drum rim. This drum currently runs on the felt on it’s rim’s inner face; but the plastic bearings of old used to run on the drum rim’s outer face, therefore won’t the ‘wired edge’ get in the way? Or is the banjo like the old plastic ones fitted to early TL machines with the small bearings with little leaf springs underneath?
Can’t see what it looks like as Connections picture for part no. HPT1702495 shows a Zanussi washcraft 1000 spin inner drum!!! Hmm, interesting conversion, that should keep me busy!!! 😆March 23, 2006 at 11:55 pm #170722aqualectric
