ParticipantHi,
I have also posted this question in another forum in the hope I might get help.
The above machine has suddenly stopped doing a reverse cycle, and instead just sits there doing nothing for about 5 min until the “other direction cycle” kicks back in. This obviously means it takes much longer to dry clothes.
I have checked that the vent pipe and fluff collector are clean. The strange thing is that sometimes it fails to reverse, whilst at other times it does reverse. I thought it must have corrected itself, but I was wrong. Today I went to use it, and it did a forward cycle for 5 mins then stopped, but did not reverse, I could hear the timer clicking, after approx 5 mins or so of doing nothing it then started off in the same direction. I again took the top cover off and plugged it back in, and the same thing happened. I turned off the power again, removed the front knobs, and removed the front cover a little way, at this stage I plugged it back in again, having done nothing and low and behold it is again working in both directions!!!
Honest I haven’t done anything!!..So what is the problem? I have been told it might be the little white box to the side of the timer which has the knob attached to it? Could it be anything else? Overheating? I haven’t s clue, but any further advice would be greatly appreciated

Alas, no start button. This machine has two buttons, one is hi/lo heat and the other is the alarm button, it has two knobs, onee is timer delay, and the other is the legnth of time to tumble knob. I am not even sure if it gets as hot as it used to. I just assumed it was taking longer to dry as the reverse cycle was not working and it is just sat there doing nothing for 5 mins or so

Reversing timer is a common failure on this machine, the prodding and poking you have done may have temporarily disturbed the dodgy contacts inside the reversing timer. Heater is switched on during long tumble action but off during short tumble.
The reversing timer used to be in the base but yours is the ‘little white box’ you referred to. It has been removed altogether on later models which have just the one control timer or electronic controls.
Part number is C00099102, not expensive.
