ParticipantAfternoon all,
I came across this dryer with this description in the advert (((((( Hotpoint condenser dryer. Insurance replaced the heater unit, drive belt and condenser unit. New drive belt and instructions enclosed. Dryer works perfectly the problem is at the end of which ever dry cycle its completed it goes into a fault code F22. If you can live with that it’s a win win for you. If not don’t bid. I couldn’t live with it so hence the sale for spares or repair.)))))Now when i picked it up, i couldnt try it and thats pretty much how it came into my kitchen, standing free, i ran three loads of drying through it, with zero fault codes, however i did think the rear of the dryer was a tad on the HOT side, but heh, maybe thats how these run, cleaned the filters and pump, defluffed it and passed it on, they slotted it into the gap for a dryer in there kitchen and 2 hrs later its throwing up f19 error codes, Hmmmmm bugga, so i refunded the purchase price and brought it home, So my question is, is something faulty on it about running to hot maybe?
Any expert opinion appreciated
CheersMessinger chat about the dryer before purchase
ME——im no expert but i doubt its a motor issue , usually cutting out is the heater or thermostats, but if theyve been replaced, its a bit of a pain, esp not being able to rely on it drying before stopping and flashing f22, yep , deffo for parts i think , how long will it run for now before f22 pops up?, if its the same length of time each time then its a temp issue deffo thx

2WHO I BOUGHT IT OFF Hello, the engineer was unable to locate the issue as he replaced many parts. The first dry cycle did finish on f22, but any further cycles didn’t complete a cycle, the error came on before the load was dry. Turning it off and on clears the error. I believe the issue was due to do with the machine becoming too hot. The machine has lots of band new parts which is why it’s for parts- such a shame as it’s a get machine.

ME——– And how does it get out of f22 , Is it simply by selecting a programme and pressing start? thx

ME—– hi , its weird the insurance engineer couldn’t fix it, so you pop wet washing in , choose program, it drys the clothes and when it should say end or finished it say F22, is that about right?

Now as you can see the seller mentions f22, but the person who i passed it onto said it made f6 and mostly f19 error codesIs there perhaps a reset method i can use , or as the engineer said , JUST cant locate the fault, and if ive interpreted it correctly it should be used with space around it, seems very odd to me
SELLER WHO I BOUGHT FROM — Hi yes the heater element is brand new. It reaches the end of its cycle which ever cycle is in use then goes into F22. It completes the cycle. The engineer did say where we have it located is the best as the room is a utility room and it gets very warm. Like I say its a shame to bi it because it does actually work. Thanks

Participant2 versions but both have the same heater unit. Heater unit a common fault but not so much the heater itself but the thermostats going open circuit or just one but that would cause no heat. There is as far as I can tell no part number for separate t/stat kit as per previous models (this is more of a w/pool inspired contraption rather than the “usual” Hotpoint offering if this makes sense and that is where the problem might lie. The part number for the heater unit is C00325995 (line drawing part J00287200) £116.99. What might have happened is, without accusing anyone, is a stat kit only was changed but changed for the wrong one set (from other hotpoint model ) since there isn`t a separate stat kit according to the parts break down you can buy only the whole heater/cum stat unit. The other thing is one of those stats MIGHT be a thermistor so not your normal mechanical stat and they both visually look the same to add to the fun. The stat with the red paint dot on the new element via the spares picture is the overload stat so if the machine has that if it overheats that stat should get triggered and cuts the power to the element and no amount of magic wand waving will cure that BUT unkown to many under that paint dot is a hole, so if that goes o/circuit with a pin you can gently reset the stat – goes “click”. The problem here is if indeed something was part changed, so that both stats could be wrong ones, or one stat is wrong or the thermister was changed for a mechanical type stat or indeed they are the originals never been messed with so all an unknown. All you have that should be the case is 1 stat with red paint mark
Other things which can cause overheating: there are two fans, one at the rear and one towards the front and both are driven by the motor directly. The front fan can get blocked-up with fluff in the “scoops” of each blade the rear one from memory has a D section on the motor shaft to match the D section hole of the fan, if that wears round that fan does not move but the shaft still does but if that was the case it should be very noisy which isn`t mentioned so presume that is not the case.
Blockage somewhere is possible. condenser blocked up is very common, pcb up the creek possible but not probabal given it does work after a fashion. F22 apparently = current to motor too high perhaps as a consequence of blocked up drum or an overloaded drum = air not circulating presumably. There are 2 motors that could be fitted. PLUS there is or could be a pencil type thermister on the housing cover for the rear fan part C00313117. So there are some pointers to ponder. Here`s a hotpont spares linky : https://www.hotpoint.co.uk/spare-parts/bom/tdwsf83bepuk-61002020000March 16, 2024 at 9:39 pm #489873seanbabtiste
ParticipantThankyou, my keyboards gone fauly on me lol but yes a lot to ponder, i do like he idea of the fan, blocked, fyi , it was the whole heater unit was changed, ill digest , all the info and report back, thanks so much

ParticipantQuick report, both fans are ok/clean, front ntc reacts fine temp changes, has he correct heater and 2 new thermostats., one is red, other is thicker and beige will check wih infra red thermo he heat of the dryer

Moderatorsee the letter T has failed on your keyboard
hold down alt key and at the same time push 116 on numeric keyboard that will give you a small t 84 will give you a capital T

Participantcheers but i think its past saving new one ordered –superglue as a key saving exercise isnt a good idea im beginning to think

Participant“20-3-24 So ill check the part numbers correct on the thermister, can anyone say whether the red stat is about right being a 180c” Short answer is no I do not know if that is correct or not . Does seem high but then the heater wattage is high and takes a large load. Spent time on and off looking for possible answer and couldn`t find one. That link you posted came flying back as page unknown. There is a red spot kit but the cycle stat is 113 and the o/load stat is 120 and on the list of models your model isn`t on it. I think your element has the right combination of stats though the highest kit I found the actual temp for was 120 cycle, 150 o/load which has a blue spot but does say it replaces the red spot but once again your model is not on that list. Think the stat thing could be a red herring unless someone else says different but the picture on uk whitegoods parts shows the under side of the stats and looking at it I`m 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure the beige one is a thermistor whereas those kits above are all mechanical ones so do not go changing stuff around using any of that stuff as that will be asking for more problems. Basically if there is no stat kit available, so not separate from the heater it is impossible to find out unless someone actually has got a brand new heater in their hand; pretty sure Hotpoint will tell you zippo, they`ve never helped me, only ever caused me problems..
So your t/dryer seems to be throwing up 3 fault codes so we have f6, f22 and f19. f6 = heater`s ntc (thermistor) error detected f22 high current to motor, motor fault maybe or belt (drive) or blockage f19 motor`s pcb most codes that are heater related are f01 to f06. I would make sure that a wire i.e. the thermistor wire at the heater terminal block hasn`t popped out of its tang within the block. Other than that not sure where you go from there.
