ParticipantHi There,
We (I say We but really mean My Husband!!) Have purchased a new belt for our Hotpoint tumble dryer. Complete novices trying to fit it, are there any manuals/guides available instantly online?. Failing that any advice appreciated on how to get the job done!!
Not sure how hard it will be to get right. Husband very good with computers, looks a little concerned at this job!!!.

Very very tricky little box of tricks for a novice to replace a belt on one of these baby dryers I’m afraid 🙁
I would recommend calling a local engineer to fix it for you (see link below). However, a clue as to how to fit it yourself requires the outer cabinet slipping up and off. The supports releasing on one side and then a bu&&er of a struggle to slip the belt on once the motor shaft is withrawn.
UN-PLUG THE MACHINE FIRST OF COURSE :zap:
….but do get someone in to do it to save all the heartache and bloodloss 🙄

Hiya Martin,
Husband being a strapping boy has managed to get the belt on (no bloodloss as yet!!!). He has fitted the belt around drum and pulleys but he says it seems more difficult than previously to turn drum?
Any suggestions gratefully received!July 10, 2006 at 4:23 pm #181506eastlmark

2 different belts could be fitted on this one, if you have the one with seperate tensioning pulley’s then you should have 1741117. dont try to fit it if it hasnt got that number on it. If it has not got the tensioning pulley’s then it is 1702342 which is a stretch fit and very tight to fit.

The smell could just be dust and fluff that has dropped onto the element during repair, just to be on the safe side keep a close eye on it for the next couple of uses.
