My Hotpoint TVFM70 dryer used to dry in 40 minutes on low heat, now taking 2 hours and clothes don’t feel so hot. High heat drying working perfectly.
I believe this has a single heating element, so unless it has ‘ windings’ would think it would work or not work. Also the thermostat(s) presumably simply switch on or off, so unless the low temperature stat is actually switching off at too low a temperature, can’t see how it’s faulty. Am not an appliance engineer, but come from a pen engineering / process control background, so trying to apply logic to this….maybe hats where I am going wrong

any help would be appreciated, also not sure if new heater elements include the two stats as standard

the element will be split in 2
so you have 2 elements in one case

does it get warm at all on low heat ?

    Hello
Yrs it gets warm on low heat, but not hot enough, takes much longer to dry, the high heat setting seems unaffected. I assume one element is for low heat and both elements used for high heat, is that correct ? Is it possible for an element to ‘ part fail’ ? Or is it all or nothing ?

Just bought a genuine Hotpoint C00282401 unit, which has the stats included. Would like to test the installed unit first, to confirm if it’s faulty or not. Have a multi meter, I am advised the impedance should be between 2-50 Ohms, can practice on the new unit, just need to know where t test between and wire colours please.

    many thanks

elements either work or they dont

Cant tell you wiring as no wiring diagram listed against model

all you can do is take reading off old and new and see if it differs by a lot
