I have an 18 month old Hotpoint TVHM80CP 8Kg Vented Tumble Dryer which is making a loud rumbling noise when running as if a shoe was in the drum It also used to squeal although this appear to have stopped. Do you think the runners may need replacing? If so, is it worthwhile spending the money or should I just buy new? Strange as only 18 months old and not used much. Thx

Sounds like the rear bearing may have failed and caused more problems unplug machine and at the rear there is a half moon plastic cover this is secured with 2 screw take this off is where I would start

I’ll try that and see if I can see any wear. Actually, sounds more a fast train going over rail joints

there is an idler pulley on the belt that by the motor. its more unusual for the later ones to fail but moving fast enough to cause this sort of noise

Think you may be confusing this vented model with a condenser dave I can’t see a idler pulley on the drawing, sounds like rear bearing has failed and the shift is running on the back panel

    you guessed it lol

but the way he described it it sounded like the sound was repeating quicker then the drum was revolving

it does have 2 wheels at the front that hold the drum and one of those may have become contaminated
