    Hi there,

I wondered if anyone had also had this problem:

When I click the dryer on, it just does nothing… I can hear it click and there is a very small sound so I know the power is getting there (so not a fuse issue). The buzzer still works when I try and start the dryer with the door open too.

Any help would be massively appreciated before I call hotpoint and get charged loads for a callout/fix that might be an issue I am able to do myself ( I have no problem with paying someone to fix though if that is the only solution!)

    thanks
    Dan

The belt has broken most likely.

Hi Martin, first thanks for the quick reply! I did have a hunch this might be the case but thought I might hear the motor engaging if this was the case and just the drum not turning. Would you advise sending in the cavalry for this one?

Yes well a local repair company could sort it for you far far cheaper than Hotpoint.

So after opening it up and have a look around the belt is very much in-tact. I have a feeling it might be the capacitor so have ordered a new one and will replace this week… fingers crossed this is the issue!

if its the cap if you start machine with the lid off and give it a push it will either run or try to

Hi Dave, so I managed to get it working again! I changed the capacitor and that seems to have done much t, hurrah. Unfortunately I didn’t see your message Dave so didn’t get chance to try that. Weirdly when I put the new capacitor in it didn’t seem to work and I had the same short buzzing noise when I clicked it on and then nothing happening… tried this a couple of times and then got annoyed so left it and started making dinner… 15mins later it just fired up and suddenly started working again! Does this sound right? Not so clued up on electrics but does the capacitor need to ‘warm up’ in first use? Still going strong after a few uses now so hopefully that’s it anyway…
