ParticipantHi, I have had the above model for 5 years and it has stopped blowing hot air for the drying process and just tumbles cold.
Does anyone know the likely solution and is it something I may be able to tackle myself with some common sense? Thanks in advance.

That will be a help, but what you really need is the proper electrical test equipment and the knowledge to know how to use it.The most likely cause is an open circuit, ‘one shot’ TOC. other possible causes range from broken wires, faulty elements, and control systems, the last two are not very common.
However, if the TOC has failed then you will also need to find out why, that could be a faulty fan motor or connections, blockages, user switching off before cool tumble cycle has finished, wiring shorting etc. Please remove the mains plug if you intend to proceed, or try the link below to see if we have someone in your area who can help.

Thanks iadom
I’ve used a multimeter before (electronics GCSE!).
Now I’ve taken the top off (unplugged first) and none of the wires appear to be loose. My wife often cancels the dryer mid cycle so this may well be the cause.Which one of these in the pic is the One shot TOC? If this has failed, where can I find the right replacement? What is the correct multimeter test for a failed TOC?

The one on the left is the TOC, the one with the red spot is the temp control stat, both should be closed circuit. If the TOC is open circuit you will need a 1605635, an e-mail to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk should do the trick.
Can fail over time, or due to excessive use. Also faulty fan motor and the main motor wiring harness chafing close to the front of the motor can cause this TOC to fail but stopping mid cycle is one of the more common causes. At least allow the machine to do the ten minute ‘cool down’ at the end of the cycle.

Beige is the thermostat, black is the safety. Both should be normally closed, ie have an ohms reading close to zero when spit from the circuit.
P/no is 1600870 if part is required, spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will get it for you quickly and economically.

Different part No for WD71 Chris, 😉 in fact the 1600870 comes as a different TOC now, bloody awkward to fit, tags come off at different angle and you have to bend the bracket to fit it in. 😥

Thanks for the very quick support.
I’ll test tomorrow and post back any findings.February 13, 2007 at 8:41 am #203981nb8k

The temp control stat is testing as open (TOC is closed).
What is the replacement part for this and would the causes of failure be different to the TOC?Thanks again.

Part number is 1601940, more than likely just a straightforward failure.
E-mail to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk giving that number should do the trick.
