Hotpoint Ultima ctd80 condenser dryer

Hi,

Put my dryer on as usual yesterday evening. Put it on delicates which takes approx 2hrs 32mins. Was making strange noise as if having difficulty with drum turning and display said 7mins but had only just started programme. Stopped it. Opened it up for smoke to come out.

Any ideas please?

capacitor has failed

or the pulleys broken, and the belts come off and jammed

either way, it aint a hrd fix… top and right hand side panel off (with plug out) cap next to motor 8uf

change that all should be ok

or call an engineer out, of course

Managed to get an engineer out. Belt was well frayed and part of it had wrapped around the motor, hence the smoke. Thanks for your help, was hoping it would be something small but no, new dryer for us 🙁

like i said, very simple fault

the motor probably wont be damaged
