ParticipantHi,
I have an S Line tumble dryer, bought new about 5 years ago. Definitely the worst purchase i ever made ( along with the Hotpoint washing machine – incapable of balancing itself when trying to start a spin cycle ).
The problem with the dryer is that it rarely reverses during the drying cycle, maybe only once every half hour. Whatever is in there just rolls-up into a tight ball and doesn’t dry. I have to to go back to it every couple of minutes to take the washing out and unfurl it all.
I bought this specifically because it claimed to have reverse action.
Is this normal or is it faulty. If so, can it be fixed? Thanks

Moderatorprobably correct as they dont reverse as often these days but have no access to tech on all dryers

ParticipantHi Dave, thanks for the reply. The model no. is SUTCD 97.
I’ve read through the instruction book many times looking for a programme with more reverse cycles but this kind of information is not referenced.
I’ve had two previous dryers, both cheap budget options, and they have outperformed the Hotpoint by a country-mile. I now regret the decision to go for a full-on digital machine rather than a good old clockwork type.

Moderatorhave not got your model but the one i looked up says
“Typical for Timed drying (approximate)
5 minutes clockwise – Heating ON.
20 seconds anti-clockwise – Heating OFF.
For Automatic programmes the above sequence may be different”does not say what difference the automatic cycle makes to the reversing times

ParticipantAgain, thanks for your help. I’ll see if I’ve the option of selecting a Timed Cycle and report back. Won’t be ’til next weekend though, all the washing is done.

ParticipantWell I couldn’t wait until the next wash day so gave the timed cycle a go with 1 damp tea towel.
It ran for bang-on 5 mins then…..hooray!! switched to reverse for roughly 8 – 9 seconds.
I’ll do a proper check on my usual ‘Cupboard Dry Cotton’ cycle at the weekend.
This could be a game changer. -
