Hotpoint Ultima says door is open when it isn’t

My daughter has a Hotpoint Ultima washing machine. When the programme reaches spin the display says the door is open and the cycle stops.

She has tried turning the machine off at the plug and on the machine to see if the machine will re-set itself. This hasn’t worked. She has also tried changing programme but the same problem persists. Can anyone please advise.

Really need full model number including any suffix after the 960, the full serial number and commercial code from inside the door as well.

At least two different types of door interlock fitted to these Indesit made machines.

There is an emergency door release on most of them, accessed by removing the plastic plinth along the bottom. See page 11 of the user manual. 😉

As it is really an Indesit it also suffers from weak plastic door handles, they often break and need replacing.

HI iadom. Thanks for your reply. I’ve found out the exact model number from my daughter now.

The machine is a Hotpoint Ultima WMD740P (not the 960 as I first thought). There are 2 other numbers and these are as follows:
S/N 9121 18358 and 3067896000.

The door handle doesn’t appear to be broken and the door locks normally when the machine has been loaded for a wash. It is only when the cycle reaches “Rinse” that the display says “Door Open” and the machine stops. My daughter says that she is able to open the door normally (without having to use the emergency door release – but the washing obviously has not been done properly and the cycle has not been completed.

It would b great if you were able to suggest a resolution otherwise it looks as if she will need to call the repair man!!

There is very little I can suggest from this distance, most faults that would stop it mid cycle such as no heat, no fill, no drain, pressure switch sticking, no motor action etc should all throw up an error message. The main reasons for stopping during a rinse cycle are failure to drain or failure to fill.

As it is a washer dryer, the dryer ntc is known to cause strange faults, it could be a faulty doorlock or worn motor brushes.

Apart from a visual inspection of all wiring and components and an electrical test of same there is no real option other than getting someone to have a look at it.

Thanks Iadom for your advice (ps it’s not a washer dryer – just a washing machine) but it looks as if she should call an engineer out as there is no error code that appears – just the warning “door open”.
