Hotpoint Ultima WMUD942K Bearings on the way out.

Hi all,

So I have a Hotpoint Ultima WMUD942K machine, which was purchased in June 2013

I’m pretty sure the bearings are going out, as it’s been getting progressively louder during the spin cycle (a rough, growling sound) and it also feels rough when I manually turn the drum itself.

I “think” I have a 5 or 10 year parts guarantee through Hotpoint, but only the 1 year labour warranty.

Does anyone know how much it would be to repair it, if it was covered by the parts guarantee? I’ve heard Hotpoint only use overpriced labourers to make up the cost of the parts.

But I also read that the drums on these machines can’t be taken apart, as they’re welded, so it might be cheaper to pay hotpoint to repair, than get a new machine.

Hotpoint charge in the region of £119.00 plus VAT IIRC or they may try and sell you an extended warranty in order to cover the repair and give you extra peace of mind for a year. You can get more help on this from this Hotpoint link.

Hotpoint in the main use their own engineers and the cost they charge is about the same as the other big brands.
