    Hotpoint UY46W s/no 37 1 00287

Original fault: Large flash visible by reflection in adjacent living room, followed by main oven not heating. Top oven / grill ok. Bottom oven fan ok.

Large hole blown out in circular element. Simple, I thought. New element and fan ordered from UKW. (fan ok but a little rattely. Time to change it before it seizes and takes out the new element.)

Items replaced, oven still not heating. No oven neon. (Clock has been reset.) New element tests out at about 22 ohms so ok.

When door opened fan stops and oven neon comes on. Still no heat. Cut outs seem ok

I suspect oven stat ET50000/J5 damaged by surge, but would have expected it to have welded s/c rather than go o/c. Any Ideas?

If I do have to change the stat, how easy is it to remove it from the control switch? The control switch seems ok – power is getting to the stat. I gather it clips on the back. Do I have to remove the control switch from the front panel, or can I separate the 2 in situ? What’s the best technique?

    Thanks.

to check stat is easy either

1 multimeter see if you have continuity ( take wires off but take photo first)

2 remove all wires from stat, link them together, make sure they cant touch anything and no kids around, turn oven on and see if it heats
if yes change stat if no check the other switch

Thanks Dave – just ordered a new stat.

Seems to clip on the back of the control switch. I notice a barb on one side and what appears to be a split barb on the other side.

Question – what’s the best method to release it? I presume I don’t have to remove the whole switch?
