    HOTPOINT Vented Tumble Dryer
    Mod. TVFS83CGP(UK)
    Ind. 95859720100
    Sn. 606200651

Was called to this vented dryer a week or two back. The Thermal Overheat Cutout (Orange spot, situated on top of heater box) was open circuit.

The machine had an extremely crushed Vent hose and I presumed that this was causing a blockage of airflow and that had caused the TOC to go open circuit. Subsequently replaced the vent hose and these thermostats (Tumble Dryer Thermostat J00114433 – Hotpoint – Hotpoint). Tested the machine and everything was working fine. Air flow was great and it was heating.

Customer used the machine three times since (each time on a timed dry program) and now the TOC has failed again. They have assured me that they did not overload the machine and that the vent hose was not kinked or obstructed and that the door filter was cleaned prior to use. Upon visit earlier today, again, the airflow was great, no blockages etc.

Please can someone explain to me what the NTC is used for? The heatbox has two old style thermostats either side of the NTC type. Blue spot on the LHS, NTC in the middle, Orange spot on the RHS.

Is it possible for the NTC to be faulty causing the machine to overheat and fail the Orange spot TOC.

Also, is the Bluespot a cycling stat or another TOC used for fail safe redundancy?

ANy ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

have you had a close look at the elements to see if any of them can short or bunch up causing hot spots

    Update:

Element was fine. Both NTC’s checked out at room temp ok.

    No airflow issues.

I wonder if customers accidentally covered inlet vents behind the lid.

Fitted new cycling stat and TOC, all seemed fine.

    Cheers
