First off i’ve got the black soot in the bearing cover so that is a bearing replacement and also the heater element is not working.

It does seem a bit of a strange coincidence that both faults have developed at the same time.

It would seem both parts will cost me just over £60 to replace.

Is it worth the time and effort with this machine? A bosch tumble dryer can be had for £259 delivered and although i’m not keen on spending £200 more the dryer i currently have doesn’t seem highly regarded. Are these the parts that go the most or can i expect further problems?

    Thanks Neil

They are the most stressed parts of the tumble dryer as is the belt and front drum support housing likewise. Repairing is indeed the cheapest option but by the same token carries a high degree of risk toward it failing again in the short term. As far as suitable a replacement is concerned Zanussi or Bosch are far far better than current Hotpoint junk!

It’s used 5 times or so a week.
