This is the first time I have seen anything like this, has anyone else come across this on Hotpoint hybrid control units?

Had 1 or 2 but usualy water ingress causes it, leaking from worktop or burst door seal , mostly in dirty middens.

This one was bone dry, lovely house, large utility room, well away from any sink. First time the lid had been off since installed six years ago.

Where’s it actually caught, Jim? Looks like the heat has come up through the motor connestor block.

Yep, wiring harness still intact and perfectly reusable. The large square blue component ( not a relay, possibly a capacitor) had cooked itself, look at the condition of the plastic watershed, looks like that was near to combustion.
