    Hi All,

My Hotpoint machine has started to sound like a jet engine when it’s on it’s final fast spin, any ideas as to what is causing this please?

    My machine is 10+ old.

    Many thanks in advance,

    Two or three possibilities.

    Noisy drain pump……not common.

    Main motor bearings failed….does happen.

Main drum bearings failed, very common.

If you open the door and spin the drum by hand is it noisy? If you can remove the drive belt from the back and the spin the drum is it still noisy?

If it is noisy after removing the belt then the main bearings have failed.

This is a major strip down and can be cured by changing the bearings and seals alone but often a new drum rear half and drum support shaft is required.

    Hi Iadom

Wow! many thanks for the response, I had a feeling it would be the bearings before you replied.
I know ths is way out of my league so I guess I’m going to start saving my pennies for when my machine finally gives up the ghost on me.

As always, many thanks for your advice,

    Have a great weekend.
