Could you check and confirm the model please as 3113R doesn’t exist.
It should begin with WM, WMA, WMS or similar.
Thanks.
Dave.

I had exactly the same, and found the following:
“Hotpoint’s are designed to go into test mode when the start button and the on/off button are pressed at the same time. If you are stuck in Test mode, simply hold the start button down until it comes out of test mode, then hold both the start buttons and the on/off button down until you see ‘D:end’ (or similar message).”
Note, mine is a WF640 of about 6 months, and the message was D:OFF.

The fix above worked for me!

Hadn’t read the king of washing machine bit. Just wanted to credit the person with the real knowledge, rather than take the glory for myself, if its possible to take any glory in helping with a washing machine problem. Oh well, back to my sad life….

The 3113R is a number allocated by Hotpoint for graded appliances, which is on a label on the inside of the door. However the usual model number can be found on the fascia.

Thanks, Thanks, Thanks!
I have a Hotpoint WF860 and got this prob – was just about to call a repair guy and thought I’d do a search first to see if anyone else had the same problem.
Held down both “on” and “start/cancel” and hey presto!
Thanks for taking the time to post!

Wow – great timing. Had the same problem when my mother in law was kind enough to put the machine on – was genuinely glad of the help!
I have a Hotpoint WF640 which had the test msg on. Followed the instructions and now no need to call out the engineer.
Thanks from me too! 😀

Gavster & DB. I wonder if this information is lurking somewhere in the user manual. I would be interested to know if it is. 8)

I havn`t been able to find it in any user manual, I found the answer the hard way when a customer phoned to say “test” was displayed on a new machine we had supplied. A quick call to Hotpoint service revealed the answer so one happy customer.

My manual is pointless when it comes to errors. I was resigned to calling Hotpoint, but did a search on the web and found the result above and then shared it here as I had found this plea while I was searching.
I am not sure why a washing machine should have a user accessible test mode If its for the manufacturer to test the machine then hide it away. As it is easily accessible, then surely it should be documented. My 3yr old managed to turn this mode on. Took me ages to find the fix!
Many people use the web for looking at pictures on naked ladies. I used it for fixing my washing machine!

a big thanks from me too. I just logged a call to hotpoint but it said my request failed……so in despair i started browsing internet again looking for answers and lo and behold i found your reply. Many many thanks my machine is now working. You would think that Hotpoint would tell its customers about their Test mode wouldnt you.

I’ve just thrown an absolute wobbly this evening in front of my in-laws (I’m 5 months pregnant and tired) because my machine came up “test”. Tried phoning Hotpoint at 7.55pm (brochure said it was open until 8pm but recorded message said 7:30pm!). Hubby logged on to internet and low and behold the answer stared us straight in the face on this website. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!! (M-in-L just left the house with a big bag of washing , then we found the solution! OOPS – oh well looks like socks etc will be ironed for us!)

We’re glad to help; I take there that is another domestic terrorist running around the house? Have a little word…….
It is definitely worrying that the manufacturer won’t tell you the information – must be the easiest and quickest way of earning £89.99 ever. It’s not as if there’s a safety issue – no covers need to be removed, indeed, the power must be on to solve the problem.
Bear us in mind for future repairs.
