Post #3 in this very thread says:

“Hotpoint’s are designed to go into test mode when the start button and the on/off button are pressed at the same time. If you are stuck in Test mode, simply hold the start button down until it comes out of test mode, then hold both the start buttons and the on/off button down until you see ‘D:end’ (or similar message).”

Thanks for the info on the TEST display in the window of my WF860, wondered what had caused it to display the message in the first place, but the Dishwasher door must have caught the Washing machine switches….you live and learn eh! Many Many thanks…just off to burn the instruction manual…. 😆

    Well done everyone!!!!!!
Had the same TEST message problems with my WF640

Found the posts for Hotpoint “TEST” message, and followed instructions in replies, but could not find Terrys original fix.
Not quite sure how I fixed it, had to try several times, pressing buttons in different orders BUT IT IS WORKING AGAIN!!!!!!! . Where can I find full details on how to fix should it happen again.
    Thanks.

    Another costly weekend averted.
