ParticipantWondering if anyone can help. I have a Hotpoint washer/dryer WD440P but it has stopped working. The wash cycle starts buts freezes at the pump out stage. After a couple of minutes some of the lights start to flash and do not stop. Sounds like a relay cutting in and out but nothing happening. Could this be a problem with the drain pump or something else. If it is the pump how easy is this to replace.
Thanks in advance for any help.

You need to tell us which lights, by number, not name, from top down are flashing, this is an error code.

the lights flashing are 2 and 4 and the on/off light.

Lights 2+4 flashing suggest pressure switch stuck on full. A blockage of some kind is the most likely cause, unlikely to be the pump itself. please remove the plug if you intend to investigate further or click the link in my sig to see if we have someone who can help.

Have investigated blockage and removed – coins, hairclips, fluff etc…
Machine now drains via the drain pipe but only manually – holding it lower than the machine. The machine will then operate the spin cycles. However on starting another programme it all works fine until it comes to drain which again doesn’t operate. Same error codes 2+4.Any more suggestions.
Just got another error code when on fast spin programme 1, 3 +4.

It sounds as though some small piece of the rubbish you found may have gone into the pump, jamming it. bra wires are common.

Took the drain pump out and stripped it down. There was something stuck inside. Cleared fault. Thanks Jim for your advice.

Glad you sorted it and thanks for letting us know the outcome. When my daughter lived at home I used an old pillow case with a couple of safety pins and placed all her underwired bras in that. The wash labels on these bras all say ‘hand wash’ but how many people take notice of wash labels. 😥
Coins and bra wires are the most common cause of pump blockages, followed by small socks, underwear etc. All avoidable with careful loading, a washbag for small items and the trusty old pillowcase.
