    I friend has asked me to have a look at his hotpoint washing machine i dont know the model number yet, The machine will go though the wash cycle but will not spin leaving the washing soaking wet.
    If you select spin only it does spin.
    Could you give me a small list of things to check

    Check the model number. Report back then. Hotpoint machine have varied so much in the last ten years, although checking the filter would be a good start.
