Hotpoint WD 62 washer dryer fills with water on dry cycle

Hi, my mother in law’s Hotpoint WD 62 washer dryer fills with water on dry cycle.
The fan runs, drum rotates and gets hot but washing gets wetter.
It is fine on a wash cycle.
Any ideas?

It is meant to take on water on the dry cycle, but the inlet valve restrictor may have dislodged. Or the condenser blocked with fluff. Or the pump may be playing up etc etc…..a number of scenarios can cause the same symptom.

Is the pump supposed to run on the dry cycle?
It runs OK on the wash cycle an spins empties OK before the dry cycle.

Yes the pump runs constantly throughout the entire drying cycle. Water enters the condenser unit (just a trickle in fact) and is pumped away all the while. On the top of the machine at the back is a small black air vent for the dryer water inlet. If you gently lift the inspection cap off you should observe the water trickling into the condenser top hose as it is drying.

Thanks for that.
I will check if the pump is running when I go to see the machine again on Saturday.
I will let you know what I find.
I guess the water is entering OK. Water can be seen in the drum about ten mins after the drying cycle starts.
If the pump is not running does this indicate problems with the programmer/timer?

Water in the drum during drying cycle is almost certainly a pump fault

As the drain pump gets older it is prone to intermittent seizing, especially during the long drying cycles. A sure sign of a worn pump is a harsh, grumbling noise when set to a spin programme before the drum starts to move.

If the pump is not running on the dry cycle but runs OK on a wash cycle what else should I look at?

As said the pump can overheat and cut out during the long time it’s on in the drying cycle. Very common fault

Also remember it only take the pump to be off for a short while during drying for quite a bit of water to get into drum.

I will see if the pump runs at all during the dry cycle and if so if it stops at all.
As I said previously there is water in the drum after less than ten minutes operation.

It’s 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} certain that either the pump itself is failing or the sump is badly blocked. If you get no problems at all during wash and spin then the pump is the culprit.

Hi all, It turned out to be the pump as you said which was semi blocked.
When on a dry cycle it could not pump as quickly as the cold water input for the condensing.
Cleaned out pump and now all OK.
