OK – in the past while it has been drying it has flashed some error codes up on the lights – I do not have these as its only happened a few times.

Anyway, basically there is no heat from it now, either when washing or drying, do they both use the same heater element?

Always been one for trying things myself so want to have a dig if I can, never seen inside a washer or know how they work etc so open to advice, im normally pretty handy @ DIY

    2 different heaters

i suspect the dryer section is faulty

could really use the fault lights, but id be looking at the dryer section, plug out, lid off, its all on the top of the drum!

a quick component test with a meter will confirm the faulty part!

if the wash heater was faulty, u wouldnt get a fault code…. it would just stick on wash

    hope this helps

    Re: Hotpoint WD420

its really frustrating as ive put it on a few test washes and dries but cant get it to flash up any errors, as I said its only happened about 3 times and ive had it about a year and a half.

I tried doing a test wash @ 95 deg but the water is still freezing cold, whole things runs through a program fine but deffo 0 heat from either the wash or the dry 🙁

Hopefully ill get it cracked open @ the weekend

    Cheers

it would normally stick.. is the temperature dial in the right position?

strange that, cos if the heater was gone, it would stick, if the ntc was faulty ud get an n f03 fault

ill run another full program to confirm im not going nuts. Temp deffo @ right position, set to 95 – and on program B (just used tea towel as a test) left it on wash for 10 mins, then cancelled the program, drum and towel freezing cold.

Just set a “H” program away on 30 deg with 30 mins dry, will see if it completes but 99.9{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure it will as one completed yesterday that was set for wash and dry.

    Re: Hotpoint WD420

Ok update – im pulling my hair out, I had a right arse on getting someone out but today them came and looked at it but I was at work. Receipt says the following has been replaced.

    Thermofuse
    Fluff Filter
    Element

    And an RCD installed.

Apparently he got water on the RCD so didnt dare test it before he went – he said leave it an hour and then it should be OK.

Ive plugged it in put a tea towel in (baring in mind the door was already open and at this point the unit is plugged in but turned off)

Soon as I closed the door it started making a noise – few seconds later power light is flashing like mad along with the “Drying High Heat” light – I left it 5 mins to see if it would sort its self out but was still going. Sounds like it normally sounds when its drying apart from the drum isnt spinning. Tried turning it off at the button and the lights went out but still making noises.

Reckon he has buggered it more? Ill have to get on the phone again tomorrow – no doubt another week to wait for someone to come out 🙁

    Re: Hotpoint WD420

Man im really wondering if I should of bought another brand. Got back from work and receipt to say the PCB had been replaced as it was burnt out, no doubt due to the last numpty getting water on it.

Done few quick tests and drying seems to be at least working, but tried a 95 deg wash running for 10 mins – does the water heat up straight away? reason I ask is I cancelled the wash after 10 mins and the tea towel I had put in was cold so im not convinced there is any heat when washing….

Just checked my first receipt and “Element (Spiral) (hl) c00080765 was replaced is this element for the dryer only and not the wash?

yup thats the dryer element… the wash element does take some time to come on

if someone gave me a hotpoint washer/washer dryer with a £50 note attatched, id take the £50 , pay the delivery driver £10 to take it away, and be grateful, safe in the knowledge i hadnt let a horrible, overly priced, unreliable fire hazzard in my property

    what more can i say?
