Assuming that DJB bought it for the last retail price which I could find (£370), it has devalued by approx £20 per month, representing a first year loss of 66{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} in value. Even the likes of Fiat and Kia cars don’t depreciate that fast! The appliance is nowhere near justifying its carbon footprint. Quite why our caring, green-agenda government actually allows this kind of tat to be sold in the first place is quite beyond me.
Then, we could get onto the real budget stuff…. I won’t, we don’t want to frighten people too much.

Almost – £340 from Asda 18 months ago. Hotpoint should be made to foot the cost of disposing of their machines – the environmental impact of scrapping the sub-standard buckets of bolts that they manufacturer must be huge! 😯
I had heard rumours that Hotpoint had gone down hill but had no idea it had gone this far down hill!!
Anyway, time to move on.
In budget terms, are Zanussi a step up from Hotpoint? We are going for a washer and a dryer this time, not a washer dryer.

The budget Zanussi are hardly a ‘step up’ from current Hotpoint, better, but not by very much. They also suffer from the curse of the dreaded sealed drum.

ParticipantOK. We have a budget of around £450 for a washer and vented dryer into which the Zanussi fits the bill.
Let me rephrase the question, for £450, is a budget Zanussi washer and dryer combo going to prove more reliable than the Hotpoint?
We will also be taking out extended insurance with Domestic & General (£140 to insure both machines for 4 years).
Also, is there any way of knowing if the Zanussi ZWF12070 has a sealed drum unit?

A far better combo than the Indesit/Hotpoint, at that price it will almost certainly have a sealed drum. If its within budget including the D&G premium then go for it.
