I have a Hotpoint WD440 washer/dryer which has been working well up until a couple of days ago when the fuse blew on the mains plug shortly after a wash cycle. Now, whenever I plug it in the fuse in the mains plug blows instantly. I have removed the lid and I can see that what I believe to be the capacitor is blackened and smells of smoke. I hoping some kind individual might be able to help me fix this.

    Thank you in advance!

Capacitor??? Do you mean the mains filter, where the mains cable comes into the machine at the back? If so then you will need a new mains lead and filter, it comes as one unit.

Thanks for your reply. Yes. Sorry. It’s the unit that the mains lead goes into at the back of the machine.

You may also need to cut off the plug and fit spade connectors as it normally melts the plug as well, always on the neutral i find as well.
