ParticipantI’d be very grateful if somebody could shed some light on our dryer problem. Found today that only cold air is blowing into drum. I have stripped and cleaned the duct and around the motor. The heater element is not warming. I have continuity through the element (detached), am getting no voltage across it and there is no voltage with respect to earth on either connctor.
There is 240v on a green wire going to the smaller ‘stat, nothing on the brown wire on the element. There is continuity through the blue wire linking ‘stat to element.
The other ‘stat has a PCB type connector. I do not really know what I should be seeing across the two thermostats. Is there a procedure to test them?If it’s of any relevence, some of the fluff in the duct was black and fairly cooked looking! But not all of it by any means.
Any tips would be VERY gratefully received!
Edited to add, Serial number is 602139018Nick

Have you checked the small stat ( one shot safety device ) for continuity?
The other device with the small push on plug is the NTC which controls the temperature.
PS. There is absolutely no need to live test to fault find on this machine.Jim.

Thanks for your reply, Jim.
I have just tested the small stat for continuity, and it is showing opern circuit. Thanks for clearing up what the other is too.
With the dryer cold then, should the stat be open circuit or have continuity?
Am I right to assume if the stat is open then the element will not heat up? If this is the case, can I buy a new stat?
Many thanks,
Nick

That is the safety cut out. You have to remove the top of the heater box to access. Often fails due to the fan coming loose on the shaft and fouling against the heater box lower casing. Can also fail due to blockages or switching machine off before the ‘cool down’ period.
Part number has just changed to C00115570 from original 1605160.

Brilliant! The recess that the switch sits in was full of tightly packed fluff. I’ve given everything a good brush and hoovering now, so replacing this stat should do the trick. Thanks everso much for your help and the link to the part.
I will let you know the result.
Cheers for now,

Don’t forget to check the fan, look for signs of it scraping on the lower casting.
