Hi All,
First time poster as I’m trying to resolve an issue with my Hotpoint WD440G washer dryer.
I have been googling including searches for Indisit and other Hotpoint machines. I have posting questions on another forum (DIYnot) and I’m hoping for some additional advice.
Currently, lights 1, 2 & 4 (plus on/off) appearing on the front display.
Background, after the other half ran a short wash cycle with some stain remover (without a drying program) and there were ‘loads’ of dense suds visible in the drum before the lights started flashing.
At this time I have done the following:-
- Emptied the filter under the lower heater and cleaned out a few bits of rubbish (a screw, a underwire from a bra…)
- Replaced the thermistor (even though the resistance reading was 25k Ohms)
- Taken visual checks of all wiring and connectors, where possible checked continuity with a multimeter
- The reading on the heater element is 47 Ohms
- The heater at the bottom of the drum reads 32 Ohms
- I’ve opened the lower section of the heater and there was a little bit of dirt mildew build-up on the filter, so I have cleaned it.
- I have checked that the heater fan is attached properly to the motor spindle and the motor spins freely
- The lower pump functions as the drum empties when the F13 error is reported
- Removed the lower PCB and visually checked for possible failed components (such as C17)
Wash programs that don’t have heat (Short Wash) still causes the heater box to get VERY hot (too hot to touch) and approx two mins after the drum has filled with water, the thermal wire on top of the heater box causes the F13 error, the heater fan starts to spin and drum drains.
Is there anything else I can check?
Is it time for an engineer visit and possible PCB replacement. This is my second PCB (previously replaced by Hotpoint) the machine is ~5 years old.
Or should I blow my savings and buy a Miele

When I first bought a Hotpoint washer dryer a few years back I thought I was making a good choice. I wish I had done some searching first. Oh well.
It surprises me that someone hasn’t taken then to court over this crap hardware.

Hi Animalglu,
There isnt much out there than hasnt gone downhill unfortunately :rolls: .
The problem being people want cheap products and expect them to last for the same amount of time that they used to. But how can they?
Think back to when most people couldnt even afford a washer, let alone a dryer, and you will remember that a washer would be really expensive compaired to wages and yet now you can go out and buy one for a fraction of the price. So what are the manufacturers skimping on?

I suppose so. Just dissapointment I guess. Just ordered a board from EMW Elecs, I thought it was worth £10 to double check.

I repaired a Hotpoint washer/dryer yesterday, it needed a new door trim.
I has been well looked after and serviced by me from new. It is now 19 years old and is good for a little while yet.
When new it cost over £350. Allowing for inflation how much do you think that would be today and then compare that with what you paid for your current Indesit based machine. 😉
Just in case you are interested here is the answer from a rough & ready online calculator
£350.00 in 1981 is equivalent to £873.45 in 2010(Assuming a yearly inflation rate of 2{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} from 2006 onwards)
How can you possibly pay less now than you would have 19 years ago and expect it to be any good. 😕

I received the control board today and fitted it. At first I thought there was still a fault as I had also returned to the original thermistor. However, in combination with the new thermistor everything worked.😀
