ParticipantWe have had our Hotpoint WD440G 7 months and every other month we have to have a engineer out to empty the filter.
The filter is loacted at the back of the machine and you have to remove a cover and cir clip to get to it.
It blocks up quicker than public toilet at the Reading festival. 😆
We only use it for light loads 3-4 times a week.Hotpoint refuse to comment on the problem and Comet who we bought the machine from will not either.
We are told that we can take the machine back as it is over 28 days old, unless the engineer says the machine is beyond repair.
Right now we are waiting for a new door as the old one broke. at the lock. We have had no machine for three weeks and one day!
Besides use the machine as bird table what our your thoughts here?
(sorry for the moaning)Many thanks.

Can you please post the serial number of the machine which can be found inside the door.As there has been a modification to the fluff filter in the dryer which could be the cause of the problem.

except no there hasnt
pump filters are there for exactly that , to filter things from the pump
the modification is to the heater box itself, not the filter.. in fact on earlier models, it was encouraged to remove the fluff filter and the flushing valve.. i have the bulletin right in front of me
its all down to the type of washing im afraid
yes, i see some pump filters blocked, but thats no fault of the machine, its more down to the types of things you wash… most of the people i see wash dog blankets on a regular basis
i have found, however , that if the next time it happens, the engineer removes the eco ball, and top of the cage, it will perform better, and block up less
this is why hotpoint and comet (who i work for btw) cant comment on your ‘fault’ becuase, basically, there isnt one
hope this is of some help

hi, the filter will only block, as helo says, if you are washing something that is causing it to block, bath mats, dog stuff, thats the usual cause, nothing to do with the machine, and no modifications available either,

As we do not have dogs i don’t think that is a problem. 😆
Last time the engineer came around he took out the eco ball (looks like ping pong ball right?)Anyhow, we did not get a chance to see if that made a difference because the door broke and we are waiting for parts.
“When” we get the door fixed i will see how it goes without the eco ball, if you chaps say it will be better i am sure it will. I will ask the engineer to remove the top of the cage, when the door is fitted.
Thanks for all your replies. 8)

Last year a new fluff filter was introduced to combat the problem of fluff build up in the heater box. As a comet engineer you do not have access to all the relevant information. As an Indesit engineer I do.

This is a customer abuse problem, the filter can only be blocking up that quickly because of what your putting in the appliance!. Do you have many hairy animals by the way?
Sorry but Hotpoint or Comet will draw the line somewhere and make a charge for this callout as this is not a know problem with this appliance.March 27, 2008 at 1:43 pm #247066Genocide Junkie

As far as i am aware we do not abuse the machine. The enigineer (from Comet) has told me that we can expect to see him every other month with this problem. It happens with this machine.

I never saw what it was.
My wife says it looked like wet fluff.March 27, 2008 at 2:40 pm #247069hotpnt
ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WD440G filter problems and general moan.
the wet fluff has to have come from something that was washed in there that shoul not have been, usual things are bath mats, throws, and color catcher sheets

The only thing i can think it was would maybe towels.
We do not have bath mats, throws. (we have throws but they are dry clean only)
Not sure what colour catcher sheets are. This never happened with our old indesit and we had that 4 years, and we were washing the same stuff.
