Can you please post the serial number of the machine which can be found inside the door.As there has been a modification to the fluff filter in the dryer which could be the cause of the problem.except no there hasnt
pump filters are there for exactly that , to filter things from the pump
the modification is to the heater box itself, not the filter.. in fact on earlier models, it was encouraged to remove the fluff filter and the flushing valve.. i have the bulletin right in front of me
its all down to the type of washing im afraid
yes, i see some pump filters blocked, but thats no fault of the machine, its more down to the types of things you wash… most of the people i see wash dog blankets on a regular basis
i have found, however , that if the next time it happens, the engineer removes the eco ball, and top of the cage, it will perform better, and block up less
this is why hotpoint and comet (who i work for btw) cant comment on your ‘fault’ becuase, basically, there isnt one
hope this is of some help
Last year a new fluff filter was introduced to combat the problem of fluff build up in the heater box. As a comet engineer you do not have access to all the relevant information. As an Indesit engineer I do.
how underinformed are you?
we tend to see machines sometimes quicker than you guys do
that new heater box has already been scrapped, but then youll know that, wont you?
hotpnt is the same as you, funny how he agrees with me too
your not being constructive at all

In the end it’s like this…
If a pump filter blocks then it’s an external cause. The machine doesn’t wake up in the morning and think, “Ah, I’ll mess with them today and make some fluff”! There has to be an external cause and that cause will be something that’s being put in the machine, there really isn’t another explanation.
Even a washer dryer, on dry extensively (they do block folks and we hate the things), will not produce excessive lint or fluff enough to block the pump filter that quickly.
Condensate chamber blocking, same deal only that’s certainly not a two minute quick fix for the owner. More often than not it’s not for the faint of heart to take that on but then you’d only be doing that every few years, not every few months.
It has to be something that’s being put in it GJ and that’s what the guys are trying to tell you. The machine cannot cause the fault.
If the manufacturer has chosen to make the filter user inaccessible as many Hotpoints are and pretty much always have been just as Hoover’s used to be as well, tough really I’m afraid. Customer accessible filters are, IMO, the only way to go. They might not look as pretty on the front but it sure saves people a heap of aggravation.
Colour catchers are those daft sheet (that don’t seem to work) which are supposed to mop up colour runs. Please use them, everyone, as they block pumps up and it’s fantastic easy work for us running about clearing the pumps out. 😉

Right everyone lets start afresh cos 2 subjects are coming up here!
first: eco ball, its purpose is to retain detergent in the drum but can restrict speed of drainage but will not effect the filter blocking up, it will block up whether it is there or not, if a customer is overloading and a sock gets dragged through then the filter will block fullstop!!
I personally leave the ball out cos it will spin better and leave a bit more space in the sump.second: Hotpoint designed the heater box first of all with a filter and flushing valve, they redesigned this where a new box didn’t have a filter and the flushing valve was eliminated, not long after they done a u-turn and went back to the filter design, this was probably done to eliminate any burning smells as minor fluff hits the element or as a money maker for future service calls! In my opinion the filter is a good idea but it is a way too fine grade of filter, i have seen machines 3 weeks old and blocked up! you cannot dictate what customers can wash and dry and all types of material will shed a little from its surface. In my opinion put two slashes in either side of the filter, air will pass through and 80{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the filter will still pick up fluff. There are many other manufacturers machines that work perfectly okay without a filter!!

Lol, as an ex Indesit engineer (I worked for them for 10 years) I know that we were the LAST people to actually know what was happening. I think Brian Moore called it ‘working as intended’.

Many thanks for all that have posted in this thread.
I apologize to those who have been offended, i did not start this thread in order to create a e-fight between memebers.Once we get the door fixed (this Tuesday) i will watching what goes in the machine like a hawk. However, as i have already posted we do not wash dog blankets or bath mats, throws etc.
If i have to have a engineer out for the fliter i will take note of what is in the filter and see for myself. Then try and sell it on ebay. 😆Once again, thanks for the input.
Have a good weekend.March 28, 2008 at 5:52 pm #247076helo_75
