ParticipantHi All,
We’ve got a 2 year old Hotpoint WD440G, its drying great – but wont get up to temp on wash. Have replaced the heating element, this has not helped. If we put it on a 95 degree wash, the door gets warm, anything lower there is no heat. Is there a thermostat somewhere? could this be the problem or is it more in depth. It’s not showing any fault codes, although i’m unsure how to check these, have found an explanation of what they mean, but not sure how to access them.
Hope you guys can help.
Thanks in advance,

Did you actually test the original element in any way before you changed it?
Totally pointless to just go ahead and change the heater without checking it for resistance, continuity and insulation. The dryer side is totally separate and has a different heater.
There is no thermostat, the temperature is controlled by an NTC or thermistor. Thats the small round thing pushed through the back of the heater securing plate, it has a small plug with two thin wires going to it.
Usually a fault with the thermistor, its wiring or related contacts or components on the PCB will generate an error code.
A full check of the wiring connections for any breaks is all I can advise. This machine is loaded with Indesit electronics, far and away the least reliable on the current market. :rolls:

Cheers for the response, did not check original heater, £40 and a quick bolt on job, thought it was worth the chance, its all it seemed it could be to me (noob, tut).
Googled like a maniac and there is very little mentioned about the washer, although the dryer gets a lot of coverage. Overall reading others reviews i think it just a poor machine from the off.
Will have another look at the thermistor, “looked” fine, but then theres not much to look at, are these things fragile as i dropped the thermistor before popping it in?
I really hope i can get it sorted.

Participantfaulty heater – machine sticks
faulty thermistor – f3
faulty board f3/f7/f8why do you think its not hot enough? only reason i ask, is if the machine thought it, it would sure as hell tell you

Generally when the cycle stops the clothes come out, well “tepid” but over the last week or so they have come out real cold. Does the heat felt on the door bear any indication to whats going on inside, its only just roome temp at 60 degrees. Did a 95 wash and it was warm.
Have spoken to an old hand (me dad), who said that the weather is bad, so the water on the rinse cycle is prob freezing, which kind of makes sense. plausable?
Also it does not help that i take no notice of the washing machine, so could not tell you the norm for the door 😳
Cheers

You should make it a rule to listen to us ‘oldies’ more often, the impetuous youth is often made a fool of by the wise old owl. 😉
As they say, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Its a washing machine, its for getting clothes clean. If they are coming out clean then leave it well alone.
If you had been rinsed three or four times in the water coming out of the taps at the moment you would be at serious risk of hypothermia. 8) in fact very 8)
