But it might just kill you. :rolls:
There is absolutely no need to do any live testing to fault find on these machines. I sincerely hope you are not poking around with a mains tester screwdriver. 😯
The only internal fuse is a small ‘fast blow’ cartridge fuse in the motor harness. If that fails the machine will fill, heat and drain but you would get no motor action.
Using a meggar or multimeter or even a simple circuit tester to check phase to neutral circuit is all you need.
If the machine is totally dead then it could be the On/Off switch as suedehead 1 says, it is a double pole switch so the fact that you have live coming out of it means very little if the neutral side of the switch has failed.
If there has been a short of any kind such as a faulty doorlock, motor brushes or wiring harness chafing on motor, or where the motor harness is attached to the edge of the cabinet then it may well have blown some tracks on the control unit.
Please remove the mains plug before you put your hands inside again.

Thanks Suedehead and Jim, I’ll check on/off switch again taking into account it’s a double pole switch and failing that I suppose it’s a new circuit board. Used meter and non contact mains tester to check wiring.
Thanks again.

What was the initial fault ?
If the door lock or wiring chafing has blown the tracks then it is often possible to repair them with careful soldering.

HI Jim.
Door switch failed several weeks ago and worked fine till other day when wife was doing normal wash and machine stopped after a couple of minutes. Wires had chaffed on moter housing a couple of years ago tripping circuit breaker, changed brushes last year.
ThanksMarch 20, 2009 at 5:28 pm #280827xr15

Hi Jim
Just fitted new on/off switch and back in business, old switch had load neutral burnt out.
You have been a valuable sauce of information Jim, and long may you be there to rescue others, many thanks.
